Funding guidance

Due to a number of requests, we have re-designed the funding guidance section of the site.

Finding a funding opportunity is only the start of the process of gaining funding. Once the opportunity is found you have to submit a proposal, and yours is probably not the only one. In order to win the grant your proposal has to stand out from the rest. Regardless of how good your research is, if the proposal is not written well and your research objectives not clear to the committee, you will not get the grant. The funding guidance section was designed to help researchers with this process.

Funding guidance contains articles written by people within the research community, from venture capitalists and successful researchers to members on the board of research councils. The articles provide help on writing proposals, creating spin-out companies, dealing with copyright and intellectual property, and all aspects of administration necessary for successful research.

Find out what a selection committee looks for in a research proposal, how a successful researcher set up his own company, or how best to approach venture capitalists.

You can find this section by clicking on ŚFunding guidance‚ on the top right of this page.

Research Sponsors: Netherlands

A new service for the Netherlands is being launched in September; Research Sponsors: Netherlands. The service consists of a database of all funding sponsors in the Netherlands. That‚s every source of funding in every discipline; every scheme, from fellowships to equipment.

Research Sponsors: Netherlands is more than just a list to browse through. As with all our services there are a variety of search options to make finding the right sponsor quick and easy. You can search for sponsors by name or by discipline. You can also use our powerful search engine to do detailed searches using a variety of criteria, and you can also do a Google-style search using keywords.

And we list not only the sponsor‚s contact details, but their whole profile. There is no point applying for a program if you then find out the sponsors overall aims are different and contradictory to yours. By viewing their profile you know what a sponsor is looking for from your research, and can therefore tailor your proposal to suit their needs, or avoid applying altogether.

Research Sponsors: Netherlands is an invaluable tool for Dutch researchers. There is no better way to find a sponsor in the Netherlands.

If you are interested in receiving this service, please contact us using the 'Contact us' link on the bottom of this page.

Spotlight on... Research Day: Europe
The European edition of Research Day includes daily monitoring of all the pan-European institutions and media shaping the research environment. This includes announcements by Framework 6 programme management, developments in the Parliament or Council of Ministers, EUREKA and COST. Like the other editions of Research Day, it also tracks the main media and websites - from the European Voice to Nature.

The email bulletins also include updates once a week from the most important countries: Germany, France, Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland. The five Nordic nations are covered twice weekly.

We use local experts to research and write our stories. So although our reports are in English, the original source is in the local language. One consequence of this is that our round up of developments in research policy in Germany, although in English, is more thorough than anything appearing in German...

Provided you or your institution has purchased access, you can browse any edition of Research Day online or receive the bulletins by email. To read the latest edition of Research Day: Europe click on the "Europe" button left (if you see only one story you need to purchase an upgrade).

To receive the bulletins by email, sign in with your password and then click the "Review my profile" button right. You can then initiate the emails on your Publications page. If you don't already have a password, ask the administrator at your institution (see contact details right).

How do we subscribe?
You can purchase either a single user license or a site license for your entire institution, or subscribe to one of our papers, sent through the post. If you don't already have a subscription, contact us for details.
